What is Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)?

Richard Bandler and John Grinder developed Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) in the mid seventies. NLP is a model of behaviour. Bandler and Grinder modelled their techniques on three very influential therapists: Virginia Satir- the founder of family therapy, Fritz Perls who developed Gestalt therapy, and Milton Erickson, the founder of hypnotherapy as we know it today. They observed and modelled how therapists communicated and achieved success in their practice.

NLP combines
three elements that map the key components of the human experience:

Neurology- this regulates how our bodies and minds function. It defines our senses, how we perceive the world around us, and how we respond.

Languageour words express our map of the world and help others understand our model of the world.

Programming – as a species we are programmed to habituate. We learn consciously and then allow that learning to "bed down" in the unconscious, which then continues to run the habit. As an example, do you remember when you first learnt something new? Learning to drive is a good example. That probably seemed very complicated at first, and yet now it happens so automatically that you sometimes barely remember how you got from A to B. The unconscious mind habituates. We are all running programmes mostly outside of our conscious awareness.

So NLP is a model that shows the connections between our minds, bodies, thoughts, feelings and behaviour. It offers a framework to understand and change perceptions and is based on some key principles called the presuppositions of NLP.

As human beings, we all have the potential to stand in our own way. With NLP you will have the opportunity to access all the resources you have available to achieve the changes you want and more. You might be surprised at how much potential you have . . . get in touch if you want to find out.
